We are canning tomatoes for a multitude of reasons:
–cost effectiveness– from a completely practical standpoint is price point, we picked these tomatoes for $.40/lb.
–the Roma– these bright red Romas are picked at the peak of their season! You can smell the distinct fragrance of the tomatoes as you pick pound after pound, bucket after bucket of these gorgeous fruit! {If you have only bough tomatoes from the supermarket you are missing out! Visit a Farmer’s Market, farm, or grow your own!!}
–quality and taste– I have never experienced a canned tomato as flavorful and delectable as these ones canned at the peak of the season. Seriously, nothing compares.
–the can- Recently featured in an article titled ‘The 7 Foods Experts Will Not Eat’ canned tomatoes was listed! We “can” in glass jars.
–the experience: picking 500+ pounds of tomatoes in the heat of Moorpark, surrounded by friendly banter, kids tromping over the plants as they gnaw on a juicy warm Roma; then waking up in the morning to a long day of boiling tomatoes, peeling blazing hot tomatoes, packing tomatoes, and the long process of boiling the cans {jars}.
–the result: 4 dozen quart jars of bright red Romas ready to be stored for the year. Sauces, soups, add a little onion, garlic, basil, lentils, or what not and you will be wowed by the bright flavor of these canned tomatoes.
